Elizabeth Powel (1743–1830) was a remarkable woman of influence in early American history. Known for her intellect, insight, and civic engagement, she corresponded with key figures like George Washington and Benjamin Franklin, shaping ideas and policies at a time when women could not vote.
Powel hosted salons in Philadelphia, where leaders gathered to discuss politics, philosophy, and governance. Her guidance and perspectives influenced the Founding Fathers, earning her a legacy as a behind-the-scenes force for liberty and leadership.
Her courage, vision, and commitment to community serve as the inspiration for the Elizabeth Powel Legacy Award and the Young Liberty Award, celebrating women today who make a difference and inspire others.
