In 2021, Lex Howard, CEO of Balance of Nature, a national supplement company, launched a philanthropic initiative to broaden the company’s community outreach and charitable contributions, focusing on advancing civics education.
His goal was to promote patriotic causes and foster civic-mindedness. With these goals in mind, the Balance of Nature Public Relations team initiated partnerships with like-minded organizations and took on sponsorship roles in patriotic events under the namesake of United We Pledge.
The inaugural event sponsored by United We Pledge was Canyon Media’s 4th of July celebration in St. George, Utah. The enthusiastic response from the community underscored the resonance of United We Pledge’s mission, leading to the organization’s swift growth.
Within a year, United We Pledge orchestrated over 10 major events, established a dedicated team of seven employees, forged partnerships with historical and patriotic organizations, and appointed a Board of Directors with Lex Howard serving as Chairman.
After United We Pledge obtained 501(c)(3) status, it became an independent nonprofit, which helped expand its educational outreach. During this time, Lex met Tom Walker, founder of the American Village in Alabama, leaving a lasting impression on Lex and his family. Inspired, Lex decided to create a similar destination in Washington County, Utah. As a result, United We Pledge now focuses on three main areas: education, celebration, and its new destination central to discussions about Liberty Village.
Furthermore, United We Pledge is dedicated to teaching and inspiring young people to be good citizens. For instance, its Give Me Liberty program reaches thousands of students in Washington County schools each year. Additionally, it hosts over 20 events annually, attracting more than 50,000 participants.
Moreover, in 2023, the Board of Directors supported starting a nonprofit to manage Liberty Village’s growth. Therefore, in 2024, Liberty Village Utah was established with an independent Board of Directors led by Lex Howard as Chairman. With over $10 million in contributions from Lex and his family, Liberty Village is well on its way to achieving its goals, significantly enhancing discussions about Liberty Village and its community impact.
