Green Dragon Tavern
Rebuilding the Headquarters of the American Revolution

Building the Green Dragon Tavern for Our Nation

Liberty Village respectfully invites the Masonic community to partner with us in a once-in-a-generation historical and educational effort: the recreation of the 1770s Green Dragon Tavern.

This project is not simply about rebuilding a structure. It is about preserving and interpreting the profound role Freemasonry played in the founding of the United States, and sharing that story with families, students, and visitors from around the world.

Within the walls of the Green Dragon Tavern, thousands of guests will be introduced to the principles, values, and civic leadership demonstrated by Masonic figures, such as George Washington, Paul Revere, and Dr. Joseph Warren, at a critical moment in history — presented with accuracy, reverence, and educational purpose.

The Headquarters of the American Revolution

More than 250 years ago, on Union Street in Boston, the Green Dragon Tavern earned a name known throughout the 13 American Colonies:

“The Headquarters of the American Revolution.”

Owned by Masons.
Used by Masons.
Shared by Masons.

The Green Dragon Tavern functioned as both a Masonic lodge and a secure meeting place for organizations such as:

  • The Sons of Liberty

  • The Boston Committee of Correspondence

  • The Boston Caucus

Within its walls, Freemasons and other community leaders gathered to plan events that would alter the course of history — including the Boston Tea Party — in pursuit of liberty, self-governance, and the founding of a new nation.

A Lost Landmark — and an Enduring Legacy

The original Green Dragon Tavern was destroyed more than 150 years ago.

With its loss came the gradual fading of a powerful chapter in American history — one deeply intertwined with Freemasonry. Today, many are unaware of the role Masons played in shaping the ideals and leadership that guided the American Revolution.

Liberty Village exists to ensure these stories are not forgotten, but instead understood, respected, and passed on.

Liberty Village: Stewardship Through Education

Liberty Village is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, family-centered, youth-focused educational destination located in Southern Utah, near Zion National Park — an area welcoming over 5.5 million visitors annually.

Through immersive experiences and historically grounded storytelling, Liberty Village brings America’s founding principles to life for new generations.

Thanks to:

  • The generous donation of 32 acres of land from Balance of Nature, Inc.

  • Significant support from Washington County, Utah (“America’s County”)

  • The generosity of hundreds of private donors

Liberty Village is now an established and growing reality.

The Green Dragon Tavern is the first historic building in a broader effort to interpret the ideals, people, and places that shaped the American founding.

The Green Dragon Tavern Experience

The Green Dragon Tavern building is currently under construction and has received its basic funding.

To fully and faithfully interpret its Masonic significance, additional support is needed to complete the interior experience — particularly the recreation of a historically accurate 1770s Masonic lodge room.

The Long Room

On the second floor, visitors will enter the Long Room, interpreted as a Masonic lodge. There, students and families will learn about:

  • The symbolism of the checkered floor

  • The meaning of the rough and polished ashlars

  • The altar and working tools

  • The moral and civic principles they represent

Through carefully designed interactive and AI-assisted interpretation, figures such as Paul Revere and Dr. Joseph Warren may “come alive” from period portraits to welcome guests and explain the meaning of the lodge and its elements.

When the space is used for educational programming, the interpretive experience will be active.
When used as a guest lodge room for visiting or local Masonic meetings, the technology will remain dormant, preserving the dignity of the setting.

An Invitation to the Masonic Community

Liberty Village approaches this project with deep respect and humility.

We are reaching out to Masonic brothers, lodges, and charitable foundations with an invitation to help ensure that the Green Dragon Tavern’s Masonic history is presented accurately, honorably, and with lasting impact.

This effort represents a rare opportunity to share Freemasonry’s historical influence with millions of visitors — not as mythology, but as lived history.

The Masonic Memorial Wall

A Masonic Memorial Wall will be located within the Green Dragon Tavern to permanently recognize those who make this project possible.

  • Names of individuals, families, lodges, and organizations will be permanently etched

  • This recognition will serve as a lasting tribute to Masonic leadership and service

Those honored on the Memorial Wall will be invited to attend the Masonic Dedication of the Green Dragon Tavern, planned for late spring or summer of 2026.

This gathering will include:

  • Participation in the formal dedication

  • A commemorative luncheon held in appreciation of supporters
